Sumud. It is a word that carries a nation.
Sumud in Arabic means steadfastness, perseverance, or resilience - but in the Palestinian context, it has been reshaped through a century-long struggle, and especially today during an ongoing genocide. It means the daily decision to remain, to endure, to resist erasure.
No wonder the Global Sumud Flotilla, aiming to break the siege of Gaza and draw attention to the genocide, chose this word as its name.
Just as Sumud Stories carries the spirit of Palestinian artisans who wake up each day to continue their craft and celebrate culture and identity, the flotilla carries international activists who write their own story of Sumud, bringing attention to challenge the normalization of this ongoing violence.
The word is growing. Sumud is now becoming a language of solidarity. A shared commitment that unites people in the fight for Palestinian life and freedom.
In honour of the Sumud Flotilla and its members, who are currently risking their lives to break the siege on Gaza. Throughout the month of September, our profits from Sumud Stories will go toward supporting Gazan university students currently stranded in Egypt. Many have lost their families and financial support. By helping them graduate, we strengthen their Sumud, so they can contribute to a Palestinian future and keep our spirit alive.
Support Gazan students directly through the purchase of Sumud Stories products from Palestine.
