A round pendant featuring a hand-cut Taffouh stone from the hills of Palestine, set in a NuGold brass frame, a traditional alloy made by melting recycled copper with zinc, then pouring it into handmade wax molds and polishing it to resemble 14K gold. Taffouh stone takes its name from the village of Taffouh near Hebron, historically known in Canaanite as “Beit Taffouh” (House of Apples). The stone is left soft and smooth on the back and hammered on the front, echoing the same surface used in traditional stone blocks that form the walls of Palestinian village houses.

Stones That Remember, Palestine in Living Form

Stone in Palestine is more than a building material; it is a record of geography, history, and identity. Formed from an ancient sea and shaped by generations of stonemasons, local limestone has long defined villages and cities, with distinct colors and textures marking regional identities from Hebron to Jerusalem. Stone enabled life on difficult terrain: dry-stacked terraces supported olive groves, while stone houses insulated against heat and cold and aged alongside their inhabitants, bearing visible traces of daily life.

Building in stone symbolized permanence and rootedness. During the Nakba, many villages built from mud and straw disappeared entirely, but stone houses often endured in ruin. Their remaining walls, arches, and doorframes still testify to lives once lived, resisting erasure and challenging narratives of emptiness.

Stone also shaped spiritual language. Biblical metaphors of rock, foundations, and endurance emerged directly from a landscape where survival depended on solid stone structures carved into bedrock. In modern times, stone gained political meaning as well: during the First Intifada, it became a symbol of popular resistance, drawn literally from the land itself.

Today, stone remains central to Palestine’s economy and cultural memory. Quarrying and craftsmanship continue ancient practices, making each block a convergence of geological time, human skill, and collective history.
