The story

Behind the Pattern

For centuries, Hebron’s residents lived a unique dual life, balancing urban living with seasonal migration to the fields. Nearly every family in Hebron had a vineyard or orchard, where they spent the hot summer months tending to their crops and preparing food stores for the year. They dried grapes, figs, and apricots, ground grains, preserved their harvests, and cooked grape juice to make Dibis (grape molasses), ensuring their self-sufficiency. Because of its abundance and fertile lands, Hebron was often called "the land of plenty," known for never experiencing famine throughout its long history.

At the same time, Hebronites were renowned for their mastery of craftsmanship, with entire families engaged in traditional crafts—weaving, textile dyeing, and glassblowing - a heritage still reflected in the names of Hebron’s historic neighborhoods, such as Sūq al-Ḥaṣṣārīyah (Weavers’ Market), Sūq al-Ghazzāl (Yarn Market), and Ḥārat al-Zajjājīn (Glassmakers’ Quarter).

The pattern of the Hebron Tote Bag celebrates this dual way of life. The geometric forms symbolize Hebron’s artisanship, echoing the precision and artistry passed down through generations. Meanwhile, the rich colors are inspired by the fruits of their land, reflecting the way Hebronites moved between workshops and fields with the changing seasons.
