Our Palestine Embroidered Hirbawi® Kufiya is dedicated to the struggle of all Palestinians in their pursuit of nationhood and a free homeland. The national flag of Palestine is sewn in a traditional tatreez stitching pattern across the iconic Palestinian black and white design.

By Hirbawi®

The Keffiyeh (pronounced “Kufiya” in Palestine) continues to hold deep and symbolic value, and serves as an icon of resistance, struggle and freedom for the Palestinian people.

The Hirbawi Keffiyeh is handmade using a classic cross-stitching technique honed over generations. The Keffiyeh is traditionally woven on two layers, the “base”, and the “pattern” or “flower” ( وردة) in Arabic. Beyond its unmatched quality, the Keffiyeh maintains its original functionality:

  • Keeping you cool in hot climates under direct sunlight.
  • Effective shielding against dust and fast-blowing winds.
  • Excellent moisture-wicking properties, directing sweat and moisture away from the skin.

The Keffiyeh now comes in a variety of colours and patterns that are evolving alongside Palestinian culture. Today, a wide selection of designs are available, based on historic landmarks, and elements of Palestinian culture, as well as the traditional staple Keffiyeh patterns that are known and loved around the world.

The story

Struggle for Nationhood

The Palestine Embroidered Kufiya commemorates Yasser Arafat (11th Nov), Palestine’s most renowned and influential political leader. The Kufiya not only speaks of the years of injustices and struggles that the Palestinians have gone through, but also of the resilience, strength, and faith that the Palestinians have in their hearts. This is what allowed them to continue battling for their freedom, liberation, and identity since the Nakba in 1948.

Palestinians, in Palestine and the diaspora, have fought to keep their Palestinian flag raised high to show the whole world that the Palestinians never give up or surrender. Palestine is their homeland and their right, and no form of occupation, no matter how strong, can take it away from them.

Yasser Arafat was an icon and an inspiration to all Palestinians and revolutionaries. He was the leader of the Palestinian revolution and devoted his life to the Palestinian liberation. He was successful in making the Palestinian cause a major issue in the global public opinion and in forming the Palestinian national identity. Arafat continued to fight for his people’s independence until his last breath. He died on November 11th, 2004, from a sudden illness after three years of Israeli military siege in Ramallah. The cause of his death and the possibility of his poisoning are a global controversy to this day.

Just like Yasser Arafat, the Palestinians never stopped battling for their freedom, liberation, and identity since the Nakba in 1948. They have fought to keep their Palestinian flag raised high to show the whole world that the Palestinians never give up or surrender and that they are proud of their country and identity.
