By Sumud Stories™

Welcome to Sumud Stories – where each product we create is a celebration of collaboration, craftsmanship, and resilience. Our journey starts in Palestine, a land known for its deep historical roots and a culture rich with diverse artisanal practices. Here, we work closely with local artisans, combining their traditional techniques with innovative designs to craft pieces that narrate the rich artisanal industry of Palestine and its people.

“Sumud” means steadfastness in Arabic, reflecting our commitment to endure and thrive despite challenges. This ethos is woven into every aspect of our work, guiding our artisans as they produce items that are not only culturally significant but also of the highest quality.

We are a collective of Palestinian artisans, each contributing their unique story of resilience and creativity to the products they make. Our mission is to bring the beauty and richness of Palestinian craftsmanship to the world, connecting people with our heritage through items that resonate with deep cultural significance.

Sumud Stories stands as a celebration of the enduring spirit of Palestine and its people. We invite you to explore our collection, learn about the stories behind each piece, and join us in honouring a legacy that continues to inspire and evolve. The story

Reinventing Stories

This tray is the result of a special collaboration between Hirbawi, the last remaining Kufiya factory in Palestine, and Sumud Stories Fair Trade, an initiative that connects traditional artisans with contemporary design rooted in ethical and sustainable values.

In Palestine, frequent electricity cuts — a consequence of the ongoing political reality — sometimes cause Hirbawi’s vintage weaving machines to produce flawed Kufiyas. Our team works with care and dedication to repair these by hand, sewing small imperfections with skill and pride. Some customers cherish these visible mends as marks of authenticity and resilience; others may see them as defects.

But when a Kufiya can no longer be salvaged, we refuse to let the fabric go to waste. Instead, we collect these imperfect pieces of original Kufiya cloth in the hope that one day, we would find a way to honor their story. Over time, a significant amount of this material accumulated, and that sparked the idea to work with Sumud Stories to give these fabrics a second life.

Together, we explored how to transform these once-discarded pieces into something meaningful, and what emerged exceeded all our hopes. With great care and creative vision, Sumud Stories reimagined the material into elegant leather trays that are both functional and full of soul.
