The Keffiyeh (pronounced “Kufiya” in Palestine) continues to hold deep and symbolic value, and serves as an icon of resistance, struggle and freedom for the Palestinian people. 

The Hirbawi Keffiyeh is handmade using a classic cross-stitching technique honed over generations. The Keffiyeh is traditionally woven on two layers, the “base”, and the “pattern” or “flower” ( وردة) in Arabic. Beyond its unmatched quality, the Keffiyeh maintains its original functionality:

  • Keeping you cool in hot climates under direct sunlight.
  • Effective shielding against dust and fast-blowing winds.
  • Excellent moisture-wicking properties, directing sweat and moisture away from the skin.

The Keffiyeh now comes in a variety of colours and patterns that are evolving alongside Palestinian culture. Today, a wide selection of designs are available, based on historic landmarks, and elements of Palestinian culture, as well as the traditional staple Keffiyeh patterns that are known and loved around the world.

We ship worldwide from our warehouses in the EU via DHL.

If you are located in Palestine or the occupied Palestinian territories, please contact us before placing an order. We deliver locally using a transport company, and payment can be made upon delivery.


Shipping Times

The total estimated delivery time is approximately two months. Our stock is shipped from Palestine to our fulfillment center in Europe, after which each order is dispatched individually.

You will receive a notification once your order leaves our fulfillment center. Delivery times are as follows:

  • Within the EU: A few days
  • UK/Ireland: Up to 10 business days
  • USA: Up to 20 business days
  • Other countries: Up to 30 business days


Tracking

You will receive a tracking number via email once your package has been dispatched.

Typically, we need up to two weeks to dispatch all orders after a restock. Once shipped, you will receive an email with a Portuguese tracking number, along with another email containing the invoice, which may be needed for customs.
Please use the Portuguese tracking number to track your package at your local post office.

We ship via DHL Worldwide. In most countries, DHL hands the packages to the local postal service. Orders can be tracked via DHL until the package is transferred to the regional postal service, after which tracking will continue with the regional carrier.

Due to high demand and limited supply, each order is limited to one kufiya.

This helps ensure more people have the opportunity to own a Hirbawi® Kufiya.

The story

Freedom & Sovereignty

From the scent of our heroic ancestors and the fragrance of the past, the Black & White Kufiya (or "Keffiyeh") remains the most symbolic expression of Palestine's heritage and its present reality.

Worn by Palestinian men and women of any rank, the kufiya became a symbol of Palestinian nationalism during the 1930s Arab Revolt against the British Empire. This reached a peak in 1938, when the leadership of the revolt ordered that the residents of Palestinian cities replace their traditional tarbush hats with the kufiya. The move was intended to create national unity, as well as allow the Palestinian rebels to blend in with the crowd when they entered the cities.

Today, this symbol of Palestinian identity is now largely imported from China. With the scarf's growing popularity in the 2000s, foreign manufacturers entered the market, driving Palestinians out of the business. For the last two decades, Yasser Hirbawi and the Hirbawi Factory have been the only manufacturers of the Palestinian Kufiya.
